Just a couple of days before the Miss Universe 2024 coronation night, Mia Le Roux of South Africa withdrew from the competition to “focus on [her] health and recovery.”

“It is with deep regret that we share the news that Mia Le Roux, Miss South Africa 2024, has had to withdraw from the Miss universe competition due to health concerns,” Miss South Africa organization said through its Instagram page on Friday, Nov. 15.

Le Roux expressed her gratitude for the support she received during the Miss Universe culminating activities.

“Making this decision has been incredibly challenging, knowing the dreams and hopes that have been placed upon me. However, I am deeply grateful to have the opportunity to focus on my health and recovery so that I may continue to serve my country with full strength,” she said.

The organization then commended Le Roux for her “incredible courage and grace throughout this difficult period.”

“Her health and well-being are our utmost priority, and we stand by her side, dedicated to ensuring she regains her strength and returns to full health. Our hearts are with her as she takes the necessary steps toward recovery,” the organization further said, opting not to expound on Le Roux’s health.

Le Roux’s withdrawal came just after the preliminary competition of the pageant.

The Miss Universe 2024 coronation night will be held in Mexico City, Mexico on Nov. 16 (Nov. 17 in Manila). Over 120 delegates, including the Philippines’ Chelsea Manalo, will compete to be the successor of reigning queen, Sheynnis Palacios.
